Officially recognized. The Skilltrade Hydrographic Survey Category B Course complies with Publication S-5B of the FIG/IHO/ICA International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers (IBSC), Category B and is fully recognized as such.

Current and practice-driven. All lectures are developed and taught by specialized and experienced field professionals. In addition to lectures from our teachers, there are guest lectures, site visits and workshops from various collaborating survey companies and survey departments. For example, Port of Rotterdam, Dredging/Port project, Kongsberg (Multibeam), van Oord – Workshop visit Moerdijk (project preparation), Periplus (Maritime archaeology), The Hydrographic Service of the Royal Netherlands Navy (Tides, Law of the and Navigation Charts), iXBlue (inertial navigation), Rijkswaterstaat (offshore surveying) and QPS Qinsy, Qimera and AutoClean/Beamworx software.

Handbooks. Included in the course fee is the Skilltrade Handbook of Offshore Surveying, an indispensable reference for every hydrographer. These books are the basis of the study material for this course.

Flexibility. The program demands dedication, with participants expected to commit to study and preparation outside of scheduled course hours. To accommodate various schedules, backgrounds and learning preferences, we have chosen for blended learning: a combination of e-learning, online and and in-person lectures. Internet access is not always necessary, our e-learning platform is also accessible offline.
